gift guide || celebrate mom!
let’s face it. mom just doesn’t spoil herself. her attention goes to, well, you! and it happy to do it. i pulled together a few fun finds fit for mom on her special day. but we really shouldn’t wait until one day a year to celebrate her, right :)

my home || my bath remodel.
it is fun to finally reveal my bathroom makeover over here. it has been so exciting to see over on west elm front + main, + on design * sponge; two places i adore.
the bathroom is only about 40 square feet, + it was not in the budget to change the footprint + had to keep it easily functioning for my 13 month old. you can see my original inspiration board, here.
the prior owner had really done a job on this bathroom [ well, both of them, actually] to the point of no return when it came to saving the original materials. he had placed a stick laminate over the shower tile to cover the original + beautiful square porcelain 1950′s tile. with the adhesive he used, there was no way to save this. and of course that is heartbreaking. i am all about coveting history, and fortunately for me there is a second bathroom in the house that does just that and still has the original textrus flooring:) although all aside from the flooring needs alot of work. but all in due time.
with all my design selections for this bath, i wanted to ensure i maintained the classic + chose era-friendly products. a good subway tile can certainly stand the test of time. this subway tile is a 4×8 beveled which adds a little extra dimension. for the flooring i chose a grey penny round tile + i am truly obsessed with it; that + the shelving cut out. the grout was a medium-color grey. i did learn to go darker than you think you want, because it does lighten a bit after installation. [ just a side note.]
my goal was to make this little bathroom feel like a breath of fresh air, especially with it being such a small space. with that, i struggled with shower curtains. the space looked great as a whole + when the shower was blocked with a curtain, it just did not work. a glass door was out of the question both for budgetary reasons + functionality with a one year old. i decided to use just a simple clear shower-liner + it does the trick perfectly.
the other challenge i had with the space was the ceilings. as you can see in the first picture, the ceiling is on the roofline. i chose to paint the walls + ceilings all the same color of simply white by benjamin moore. this helps to keep the walls + ceiling a seamless line + takes away from the lowering ceiling angle.

west elm event serving up [evening] brunch
thank you so much to west elm for having me out last night to their “entertaining made easy” event ! forgive my iphone images, but my photographer fell through. well – honestly, with all that has been going on, i forgot to ask her until the last minute + she was otherwise engaged, so thank goodness for the iphone:)
can you honestly ask for a more amazing place to pull from for setting a table?! a dreamland for sure! i was asked to put together a brunch, + how perfect to pull together with all their new market products, terrariums + layers of textures! as a neutral-lover, i chose all the soft mints + blues + added the pops of oranges + greenery. you can see my initial inspiration board, here.
i always love to re-purpose things for multiple uses + make things just a bit easier for everyone when designing at home. carafes used as vases, vases used for juice, planter used as a beverage station + freshly cut greenery from the back yard.
hope you enjoy!
keep calm + carry on.
sorry about the little delay in posting. it has been a couple of rough days. the stomach flu hit our house pretty hard the past two days. first myself, then little mila [and she's still struggling with it] . everyone but the dog. being a sick mom with a sick little one is not the easiest thing in the world, to say the least. but if there’s anyone i’d like to be sick with, it’s my little girl. this image has me yearning for a little get away as my “to do” list has certainly taken on a life of its own the past few days. and did i mention our sewer line backed up in the midst of everything and has a clog, so i cannot do wash until the plumber gets here and only one bathroom is usable? sometimes renting has a really nice ring to it. wonder if there is a saying to “keep calm and just rent”?
but on the bright side, i had lots of fun at west elm atlanta on monday putting my design together for the brunch table for tonight’s event. i hope to see some of you there! there will be music, little bites, and mimosas.

to an amazing, spring-filled weekend.
so it has been a fun + busy week for me wearing sometimes more hats than my little head can fit. but all in good fun, of course. the rain we have had has been frustrating for some, but for me i find it cathartic in hearing the pitter patter + knowing that april showers bring may flowers. here is to s spring-filled weekend to you. and don’t forget to put the west elm entertaining event on your calendar, for wednesday evening! i’ll be putting a summer brunch table together witha feminine + of course modern aesthetic.
